BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Powered by two home runs from junior Katie Krzus, Georgia Tech softball (6-6) run-ruled Campbell (7-8), 8-0 in six innings on Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Yellow Jackets at .500 for the first time since the 2014 season.

Head coach Aileen Morales says:
“I am proud of how our team competed today. We learned a lot about the level of play we are capable of as well. Krzus led the way for us all weekend with some monster homers in pivotal moments. We got better with each game, capping it off today with a run-rule victory.”

How it happened:
Krzus got the offense going for the Jackets in the first. Hitting in the three hole, Krzus knocked the third pitch she saw over the left field fence for her fourth home run of the season. Krzus’s home run scored sophomore Rebecca Prairie, who reached on a walk, to take the 2-0 lead for the Jackets.

Krzus did it again in the top of the third. With freshman Breanna Roper on second and Prairieon first, Krzus hit a three-run home run over center field to bring Tech’s tally to 5-0. Roper reached on a double and Prairie walked.

In the top of the sixth with a 5-0 lead, senior Draven Sonnon led off the inning with a single to right field. Freshman Lilly Hooper singled up the middle to advance Sonnon to second. Junior Kaylee Ellebracht singled to right field to load the bases. Roper drew a walk to score Sonnon. Krzus took four balls, bringing in Hooper and moved the score to 7-0 in favor of the Jackets. With two outs on the board and the bases still loaded, sophomore Crosby Huckabay singled to left center to score Ellebracht, bringing in Tech’s final run at 8-0.

Senior Emily Anderson got the start in the circle for the Jackets, striking out nine and giving up two hits in her fourth win this season. Striking out her last batter, Anderson sealed the win for the Jackets in the bottom of the sixth at 8-0.

Up next:
The Jackets return to The Flats for a midweek game with Kennesaw State. Tech hosts the Owls on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. at Mewborn Field.
