THE FLATS – Recognized as one of the nation’s top student-athletes for his combined performance on the field and in the classroom, Georgia Tech baseball sophomore Andrew Jenkins was named a 2022 Academic All-American, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Wednesday.
Earning second-team honors, Jenkins was one of just three student-athletes to represent the Atlantic Coast Conference on this year’s teams. The Atlanta native is the 13th Yellow Jacket to earn the honor, joining Tech standouts that include Nomar Garciaparra, Mark Teixeira, Charlie Blackmon, Derek Dietrich, Michael Guldberg and Luke Waddell.
Jenkins received his first Academic All-American award after earning a 3.79 grade-point average in his third year in the business administration program at Georgia Tech.
On the field this season, Jenkins has been nothing short of outstanding. Jenkins started all 60 games at first base for the Jackets, hitting a scorching .381 for 22 doubles, one triple and 17 home runs for 70 RBI. Jenkins led the conference and ranks sixth nationally with 96 hits. He also ranked second in the ACC in average, in doubles, sac flies (eight) and runs (71) and fifth in total bases (171). Jenkins has hit .404 alone against just ACC opponents this season, leading the league in hits (55) and runs (40), while ranking second in slugging (.765), third in OPS (1.218) and average.
Georgia Tech baseball continues to succeed in the classroom. The Yellow Jackets were one of nine teams at Tech to earn a 3.0 team GPA or higher, earning a 3.05 for the spring semester.
