Jackets Wrap Up Michigan Invite with Three Victories

ANN ARBOR, Mich.- The #20 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team competed in the final day of the Michigan Invitational, facing #59 South Florida in singles and #11 Michigan in doubles.

“Today, Muriel and Rasheeda played well in singles,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “Natasha and Rasheeda played a very good doubles match against Michigan. It was a really good event. We have a lot of work to do before we leave Friday for Nebraska.”

Freshman Rasheeda McAdoo won her second singles match of the tournament, defeating USF’s Loreta Alonso in tough match on court two. McAdoo won her first set 6-2, before falling in set two, 6-4. McAdoo edged Alonso, 11-9, to win the tiebreaker.

Senior Muriel Wacker also won her singles match of the day, defeating Vera Bessonova in a tiebreaker as well. Wacker took the first set, 6-4, while Bessonova won set two, 6-3. Wacker won the tiebreaker, 10-2, at the number five spot.

On court one, senior Kendal Woodard lost set one 7-5 to Kayla Rizzolo. Woodard won the second set, 6-2, but fell behind in the tiebreaker, 10-3. Sophomore Natasha Prokhnevska was down in set one, 6-2, to Fanny Fracassi but came back to win set two, 6-2. Prokhnevska and Fracassi battled it out in the tiebreaker, but Fracassi edged Prokhnevska, 14-12, to take the match.

Freshman Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer competed on court four against Olaya Garrido and was defeated, 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Nicole Gottret Murillo also lost her match against USF, falling to Olga Martinez, 6-3, 6-0.

McAdoo and Prokhnevska paired together in doubles play for the first time this season, to defeat Michigan’s Laura Ucros and Kristen Dodge, 6-4 in the number two spot. On court one in doubles,Woodard and Anton-Ohlmeyer lost to Amy Zhu and Sarah Lee, 6-1.

Next up, the Jackets travel to the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska to face #25 Nebraska at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
