Georgia Tech closes out non-conference play with a midweek tilt on Wednesday against USC Upstate. The Yellow Jackets look to extend their winning streak to four-straight games after picking up a marquee win at Georgia on Saturday. Tech led by as many as 20 points against the Lady Bulldogs before securing a 64-53 win in Athens. Kara Dunn led the way offensively with a game-high 21 points, while Tonie Morgan recorded a double-double of 12 rebounds and 11 points.
USC Upstate comes into Wednesday’s contest off a heartbreaking loss to UNC Greensboro on Monday morning. The Spartans dropped a 56-53 decision to UNCG for their first home loss of the season. Isabell West leads Upstate offensively on the season, averaging 10.6 points per game, while AC Markham leads on the boards, recording 6.4 rebounds per game.
Georgia Tech and USC Upstate are meeting on the hardwood for the third time in program history on Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets have hosted the Spartans twice, leading the series, 2-0. The last meeting in the series took place on Dec. 5, 2015 with Tech taking away an 87-46 decision.
Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2
Looking to build on the success of last year’s Competitive Drive Initiative, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation and Georgia Tech athletics are partnering once again for Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2. Initially launched on Nov. 7, CDI Turn 2 has reached its initial goal of raising $2.5 million in new gifts to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund and has a new goal of raising $3 million in new gifts to the A-T Fund by Dec. 31. Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Foundation will match eligible gifts to accelerate the impact for Tech athletics and, like last year, not only will gifts to CDI Turn 2 be matched, but so will the contributor’s benefits in the way of A-T Fund giving levels and priority points.
