March 7, 2002

PLEASANTON, Calif. – The Georgia Tech softball team (15-4, 0-0 ACC), winners of seven straight, will get a tough test this weekend at San Jose State’s National Invitational Softball Tournament, which begins Friday.

The Jackets open the event against 17th-ranked Iowa at noon PT, followed by a 2 p.m. PT match-up with Syracuse. Tech wraps up day one of the event with an 8 p.m. PT meeting with UNC Greensboro.

Tech has never met the Hawkeyes or the Orangewomen, while it owns a 3-1 all-time mark against UNC Greensboro.

Potential opponents in the tournament include top-ranked UCLA, No. 6 California and No. 7 Arizona State. ACC rival Virginia is also in the event. After Friday’s pool play, double-elimination bracket play begins Saturday at noon PT and concludes with the championship game at 2 p.m. PT Sunday.
