Jackets Take Game One in Italy Over Bosnia

PORDENONE, ITALY – Georgia Tech women’s basketball allowed just 10 field goals in its first exhibition game in Italy against Bosnia’s U19 Orlovi Banja Luka on Thursday evening. The Jackets opened the four games on the foreign tour with a 101-31 victory over Bosnia.

“This is a great opportunity for our team to learn our system and develop our chemistry on the court,” commented head coach MaChelle Joseph. “Our young players are gaining valuable experience that will help them be ready to compete early in the season.”

Playing in her hometown, senior Antonia Peresson led Tech with 16 points on four treys. Junior Kaylan Pugh also chipped in 16 points to go along with six rebounds. Newcomer Breanna Brown added 13 points. In total, five Jackets scored in double-figures. Freshman Kierra Fletcher grabbed nine rebounds followed by fellow classman Daijah Jefferson with eight.

Tech opened the game with a 10-0 run and led 28-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Jackets expanded their lead to 49-13 at halftime. Bosnia scored just five points in the third quarter as Martine Fortune hit a jumper with less than a minute left in the game for Tech to reach 100 points.

The Jackets play game two of the four games on the foreign tour on Friday in Pordenone.
