GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After falling to UConn by a score of 7-6 on Friday, the Jackets bounced back on Saturday with a 12-3 win over Bethune-Cookman to stay alive in the NCAA Gainesville Regional.

Georgia Tech (37-24) put the game away in the top of the ninth with a six-run frame, which included a three-run shot from Tristin English. Starter Brandon Gold (9-3) earned the win, pitching 7.0 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits.

English went 3-for-5 with a home run and 5 RBI, and he now has five home runs and 42 RBI on the season. Wade Bailey went 4-5 with two doubles, bringing his total up to 12 for the season.

  • The Jackets got on the board with a pair of runs in the top half of the second inning. The frame included singles from Tristin English, Trevor Craport and Brandt Stallings. English came home on a bases-loaded walk, and Craport came home on a fielder’s choice.
  • Tech put one more on the board in the third with a pair of doubles from Wade Bailey and Craport.
  • Bethune-Cookman tied it up after two runs in the third and another in the fourth. The Wildcats had five combined hits in the third and fourth innings.
  • The Jackets regained the lead in the top of the fifth, as they were able to tally three runs. Tristin English drove in two on a single, and Gonzalez scored on a groundout to make it 6-3.
  • In the top of the ninth, the Georgia Tech bats really came alive. The Jackets plated six with the help of a three run homer from English, his fifth of the season.


  • Georgia Tech broke the single-season school record with its 78th double play of the season.
  • Freshman 1B Tristin English went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI.
  • Wade Bailey went 4-5 with two doubles.
  • Matt Gonzalez now has 299 career hits and is one shy of becoming the third player in school history with 300 career hits.
  • English hit his fifth home run of the season and is now up to 42 RBI.
  • Brandon Gold earned his ninth win of the year, which leads the Georgia Tech staff.
  • Sophomore 3B Trevor Craport extended his hit streak to eight games and his reached safely streak to 12 games. Craport went 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
  • Junior SS Connor Justus made his 100th consecutive start Saturday.

Georgia Tech will face the loser of Florida and UConn at 12 p.m. Saturday on ESPN3 and WREK 91.1 FM.
