DURHAM, N.C. – Georgia Tech softball (20-17, 6-5 ACC) split Friday’s doubleheader with Duke (20-19, 6-8 ACC), dropping game one 2-1 in eight before bouncing back to take game two, 4-3. With the win, the Yellow Jackets eclipsed the win total from last season.
Due to the weather forecast, the series finale has been pushed to Sunday, April 8 at 12 p.m.
Game 1: DU 2, GT 1 (8)
Sophomore Crosby Huckabay gave Tech the first lead of the game in the top of the second. She sent a long ball over right center for her sixth home run of the season, giving Tech the 1-0 lead.
The Blue Devils responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run off two hits against senior Emily Anderson to tie the game at 1-1.
The score stayed at 1-1 through the seventh. With the bases loaded, Anderson struck out the last batter to send the game into extra innings. Still 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Duke loaded the bases with a walk, a hit by pitch and a single. One more single to right field, plated the winning run for the Blue Devils and Tech fell 2-1 in the eighth.
Game 2: GT 4, DU 3
Freshman Naomi Dickerson got the start in the circle for the Jackets. She gave up a one-run home run in the bottom of the second to give Duke the lead at 1-0. Taking the lead into the bottom of the fourth, Duke put two on base from errors. A double brought in both runners from first and third to push the lead to 3-0. Sophomore Brooke Barfield came into the circle to pitch for the Jackets.
The Jackets came alive in the sixth. Trailing 3-0 in the top of the sixth, senior Draven Sonnon broke the shutout. The senior led off the inning with a home run over left field, her seventh of the season. Junior Katie Krzus singled to reach base, advancing to second on a fielding error. Pinch hitting for Huckabay, freshman Bianca Mora singled up the middle to reach base, advancing Krzus to third. Sophomore Sydney Stavro entered at first to pinch run for Mora. Freshman Lilly Hooper took a pitch to the body to load the bases. Freshman Breanna Roper singled up the middle, plating Krzus and Stavro to tie the game at 3-3.
The Jackets took over the lead in the top of the seventh. With two outs recorded, freshman Cameron Stanford homered to left field to give Tech the 4-3 edge. Barfield held the Blue Devils in the bottom of the seventh to come away with the win, 4-3.

The Jackets play the series finale against the Blue Devils on Sunday, April 8 at 12 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
