Game 1 Box Score (.pdf) | Game 2 Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – Completing the entire series in 24 hours due to inclement weather in the forecast this weekend, Georgia Tech baseball split the doubleheader against No. 13 North Carolina, falling 10-6 in Game 1 and winning 8-4 in Game 2 on Friday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Game 1: No. 13 North Carolina 10, Georgia Tech 6

The Yellow Jackets (19-13, 7-8 ACC) started the day by scoring in the first inning on an RBI double by Angelo Dispigna. But freshman RHP Luke Schmolke (4-1) struggled in his start for the first time in weeks, allowing five earned runs on five hits with six walks in 3.0 innings. RHP Aeden Finateri then allowed two runs on two hits in 1.0 innings of work.

LHP Josiah Siegel then put out the fire with a season-long 4.0 innings of two-run, four-hit ball with three strikeouts, throwing 75 pitches on the day. LHP Noah Samol closed the final inning.

Tech battled back with four runs in the sixth and one run in the seventh, thanks to a solo home run from Dispigna, two-RBI double from Jake DeLeo and RBI from Jack Rubenstein and John Giesler. Kristian Campbell also finished with two hits.

Game 2: No. 13 North Carolina 4, Georgia Tech 8

The Tar Heels (22-10, 8-5 ACC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Tech was able to pour on five runs in the third and three more in the fifth to build its lead.

With their backs against the wall, the Jackets’ bats came alive, getting led by a 2-for-3 day from Stephen Reid, who launched a three-run home run in addition to smashing a double. Campbell was again red hot, getting three hits and an RBI, while Nico Senese, Dispigna and Brandon Prince all recorded two hits. Giesler also drove in a run.

Starter RHP Jackson Finley went the first 1.2 innings before being replaced due to an injury. RHP Ben King (3-0) then went a hitless 2.1 innings with two strikeouts before RHP Jackson Vaughan allowed just one unearned run in 1.2 innings of work. LHP Camron Hill continued to build the bridge to Tech’s closer by allowing just a sac fly run in 1.1 innings.

RHP Terry Busse then slammed the door shut pitched two hitless innings to close, lowing his season ERA to 0.84.

Georgia Tech concludes its five-game homestand when it hosts SEC foe Auburn on Tuesday, April 11. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
