THE FLATS — Georgia Tech softball (27-23, 12-9 ACC) secured its fifth ACC series win on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Virginia Tech (21-29, 7-16 ACC) in the final regular season home game at Mewborn Field. The Jackets have five ACC series wins for the first time since 2011. Senior Emily Anderson pitched her sixth complete game shutout of the season.

Head coach Aileen Morales says:
“I’m proud of how our team responded today and clinched this series win. We pitched well, played great defense, and Prairie managed to scrap a timely hit. All our seniors stepped up at different points this weekend and it was fulfilling to send them off with a win in their last regular-season home game.”

How it happened:
The Jackets scored first, for the first time this series. With one out in the bottom of the third, senior Draven Sonnon drew a walk to reach base before stealing second. Junior Katie Krzus drew a walk and both advanced on a wild pitch to put runners on second and third. Another wild pitch brought home Sonnon and gave Georgia Tech the lead at 1-0.

The Jackets added to their tally in the bottom of the tally. Sonnon, Krzus and sophomore Crosby Huckabay all drew walks to load the bases. Sophomore Rebecca Prairie sent the Jackets’ first hit of the game up the middle for a two-RBI single, plating Sonnon and Krzus and moving the score to 3-0.

Anderson held on for the shutout, notching seven strikeouts for come away with her sixth complete-game shutout of the season.

Up next:
The Jackets play their final ACC series on the road next weekend in Chestnut Hill, Mass., battling against Boston College. The series is slated to kick off on Friday at 6 p.m.
