THE FLATS – Georgia Tech pulled away from Boston College in the fourth quarter to pick up its 15th win of the season Thursday night, defeating the Eagles 67-43 in McCamish Pavilion. With the win, Tech improved to 15-10 overall and 4-8 in ACC play.
“I was really pleased with our defensive effort, particularly in the first and second quarter,” commented head coach MaChelle Joseph. “To hold an ACC team to single digits in two quarters is hard to do, but we’ve done that a couple of times this year. I’m really pleased with our effort and energy. Imani Tilford really stepped up for us today and Antonia Peresson stepped up. Breanna Brown has really come on strong as of late. We’ve given her more minutes and she’s responded. I’ve been really pleased with the play of our seniors.”
How It Happened
Tech shook off a slow start to the game and answered a 6-3 Boston College lead with a 23-8 run spanning both quarters for a 26-14 halftime lead. The Jackets forced Boston College into 22 first half turnovers, converting the miscues into 16 points as the Jackets won the rebounding edge, 20-14. The Jackets gained their largest lead of the first half off an Elo Edeferioka three-point play, pushing the lead to 26-12 before BC’s Taylor Ortlepp capped the half with a bucket for the tally.
Boston College cut the score to single digits out of the break, hitting back-to-back triples that fueled an 8-0 run and setup a 28-22 game with 7:05 left in the third. The Eagles came within five points in the third stanza, but Tech held strong and broke away in the final frame, outscoring the visiting team 26-10, shooting 52.9 percent in the stanza.
