Jackets Ready for ACC Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech indoor track and field begins the postseason when it heads to Clemson, S.C., for the ACC Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-24.

The Yellow Jackets will face multiple nationally ranked programs in conference action. The men’s team will contend with No. 6 Florida State, No. 9 Syracuse as well as No. 17 Virginia Tech. The women’s team will see 15th-ranked Virginia Tech.

With a week off after their ultra-competitive final week of regular-season competition, where Tech battled in three meets. Nahom Solomon led the pack up at the Iowa State Classic as he set the 3000-meter school record (8:02.00) while Jeanine Williams earned her eighth top-10 finish in the 60m hurdles at the Tiger Paw Invitation, taking sixth place.

At the Music City Challenge, Mary Prouty peaked at the right time, running the fastest 5000 time by a Jacket this season (16:58.92) while Ryan Peck set a new PR in the 5000, finishing sixth.

Avery Bartlett and Frank Pittman both ran quality outings as Bartlett set the top mark in the ACC in the 800 at the Iowa State Classic (seventh – 1:48.56) and Pittman finished fourth in the mile at Music City. Andreas Ward had yet another top-10 placing in the 60m hurdles (ninth – 8.29) while Nicole Fegans finished second in the 3000 meters.

The ACC Championships begin on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. with the women’s and men’s DMR finals. Day two and three will begin at 10:30 a.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and available on the WatchESPN app.
