Box Score (.pdf)

THE FLATS – No. 7 Georgia Tech baseball remained hot at home, pouring on the offense in the 14-0 shutout of Gardner-Webb on Friday night at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (5-1) were no worse for wear on the mound as starter RHP Chance Huff (1-0) punched out nine for the second-straight week, allowing just one hit and sitting down 10-straight batters to close his day. Freshman LHP Camron Hill then came in to close, pitching a career-long 3.0 shutout innings for his first collegiate save.

At the plate, Tech was held off the board for only two innings before revving up to eventual hang a six-spot in the fifth inning, blowing the game wide open. Drew Compton led the way with a 3-for-4, three RBI night, mashing a double and his fourth home run of the season. Chandler Simpson also hit a grand slam over the right field fence for four RBI and Kevin Parada had his second homer of the year.

Tres Gonzalez also had an impressive day at the plate, recording a double and drawing three walks, scoring three times as well. John Giesler, who came in to play first base in the seventh inning, also crushed a home run.

The Runnin’ Bulldogs (2-4) were led by Jacob Marcos, who had the lone hit for Gardner-Webb, while RHP Joe Simeone (0-2) received the loss, surrendering seven earned runs on five hits in 4.2 innings.

Seventh-ranked Georgia Tech will conclude the three-game series on Saturday, Feb. 26 with a doubleheader due to forecast weather on Sunday. First pitch for the first game will be 1 p.m. with game two starting approximately 45 minutes after its conclusion.
