Georgia Tech’s women’s basketball team was picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll for the 2005-06 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball season, as determined by a vote of the ACC women’s basketball media and coaches.
The Yellow Jackets finished 10th in the league a year ago with an overall record of 13-14.
Duke, the recipient of 30 of 40 first-place votes, was selected as the top preseason pick for the 2005-06 ACC Women’s Basketball season, and the North Carolina Tar Heels, who received 10 first-place votes, followed the Blue Devils in the balloting.
The Maryland Terrapins finished third, while NC State and ACC newcomer Boston College were selected to finish in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Florida State was sixth, followed in the seventh slot by the Virginia Tech Hokies. Virginia and Wake Forest were selected eighth and ninth, while Miami and Clemson rounded out the preseason poll at Nos. 11 and 12.
In balloting for the 2004-05 preseason All-Conference team, seniors Monique Currie of Duke and Tamara James of Miami were named to the team along with juniors Shay Doron of Maryland and Ivory Latta of North Carolina. Sophomores Erlana Larkins of North Carolina and Crystal Langhorne of Maryland rounded out the preseason all-ACC squad.
Currie was selected as the league’s preseason Player of the Year, while Duke freshman Abby Waner was tabbed ACC preseason Rookie of the Year.
