TOP STORYLINES
• No. 11 Georgia Tech baseball kicks off the 2022 regular season at home against 2021 NCAA Knoxville Regional participant Wright State on Feb. 18-20 at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
• Georgia Tech and Wright State haven’t squared off since the 1990 Rainbow Spring Tournament in Hawaii where the two split, including the Jackets’ 10-inning 4-3 win on March 30. Tech placed third in the tournament overall.
• The 11th-ranked Yellow Jackets return some of the best fire power in the nation at the plate, led by preseason all-American Kevin Parada, who became the first GT freshman since Matt Murton in 2001 to lead them in hitting.
• Tech also returns Andrew Jenkins (9 HR), Drew Compton (13 HR), Stephen Reid (9 HR) and John Anderson (4 HR in just 47 ABs).
• Also leading the lineup will be Tres Gonzalez’s .422 OBP from last year, a healthy Colin Hall, Jake DeLeo and UAB-transfer Chandler Simpson, who swiped a record 55 bags in the Northwoods League last summer.
• The starting rotation for Tech this year will start as RHP Chance Huff, RHP Zach Maxwell and RHP Aeden Finateri.
• Huff started just one game in 2021, working primarily out of the bullpen for a 9.99 ERA, 1-0 record and two saves.
• Once a starter, Maxwell led the bullpen with a 3.09 ERA, 2-2 record and a whopping 56 strikeouts.
• Freshman Finateri will start Sunday after being the third-ranked pitcher out of Connecticut. He worked to a 0.50 ERA over 52.0 innings of showcase ball from 2017-20.
