THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field heads to Nashville on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13-14 to compete in the Commodore Invitational. It is the first of three trips to Vanderbilt this indoor season.
Action on Friday kicks off at 4 p.m. with the high jump. Competition on Saturday will start at 9:30 a.m. with the 3000-meter run.
This is the second test of the indoor season for the Yellow Jackets who competed at the Orange & Purple Classic last weekend at Clemson. Tech posted six top-three finishes on the day. Freshmen Benjamin Jean and Sam Costa recorded first-place finishes in their respective events.
Costa, who raced a time of 15:13.22 in the 5000-meter run in his freshman debut, was named ACC Track Performer of the Week following the Orange & Purple Classic. Jean’s time of 1:03.63 in the 500-meter run currently ranks second nationally.
Other notable performers for the Yellow Jackets were Kenya Collins and Angelica Henderson. Collins raced to a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, while Henderson grabbed two fifth-place finishes in the 200- and 400-meter runs.
Tech will compete against four ranked teams this weekend including Alabama (No. 17 men, No. 22 women), Florida (No. 1 men, No. 6 women), LSU (No. 3 men, No. 7 women) and Tennessee (No. 13 men, No. 15 women).
