Jackets Drop Heartbreaker to No. 2 Louisville

Box Score (.pdf)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Despite frigid temperatures, Georgia Tech baseball fought back from a 5-0 deficit to take a 7-5 lead in the seventh, but couldn’t hold on as it fell 8-7 to No. 2 Louisville on Friday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (13-5, 2-2 ACC) were plagued by three late defensive errors that allowed two unearned runs to score after the seventh inning, ultimately allowing the second-ranked Cardinals (16-1, 1-0 ACC) back into the game.

After five runs scored in five innings against starter RHP Dawson Brown, the bullpen combination of LHP Joseph Mannelly, RHP Ben King and RHP Terry Busse surrendered just one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts to close the game.

Busse (0-1) had his first runs cross against him (just one earned) as he received his first losing decision.

At the plate, Jack Rubenstein and Jadyn Jackson led the way two hits and two RBI apiece. Drew Compton also had two hits to drive in a run, while Angelo Dispigna went 2-for-4 as well.

Louisville was led by Jack Payton, who went 3-for-6. LHP Tate Kuehner (1-0) received the win, pitching just 0.2 hitless innings.

Georgia Tech and Louisville will battle in Game 2 on Saturday, March 18. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
