KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – RHP Zach Maxwell turned in an all-time start, but it wouldn’t be enough as a six-run ninth inning proved the difference maker as Georgia Tech baseball fell 9-6 to top-ranked Tennessee on Sunday night in the Knoxville Regional at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
Maxwell punched out a career-high-tying 11 batters over 6.0 innings, allowing just two unearned runs on five hits in the effort. RHP Dawson Brown (3-2) then kept the Volunteers (56-7) largely contained, allowing just a run in the next two innings, but the game got away in the ninth when six came across.
At the plate, Stephen Reid led the way with a 3-for-4 day, recording a two-run homer in the fourth. Tim Borden II went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Kevin Parada and Tres Gonzalez also finished with two hits. Jadyn Jackson also drove in a run.
Tennessee was led by Trey Lipscomb, who finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. LHP Redmond Walsh (4-1) received the win, surrendering two runs on three hits in 2.0 innings.
