THE FLATS – No. 16 Georgia Tech baseball dropped its first series of the season, falling 16-6 to Georgia on Saturday afternoon at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (9-2) were unable to keep the Bulldogs (8-2) off the scoreboard in seven innings, while their bats were limited to just seven hits.
Starter LHP Josiah Siegel (1-1) received the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in 2.1 innings pitched. RHP Aeden Finateri the came in and allowed four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings before LHP Cody Carwile worked 2.1 innings with three earned runs. RHP Luke Schmolke closed with six strikeouts over 2.2 innings.
At the plate, Nico Senese had his best game of his career, going 3-for-4 with a double. Jake DeLeo, Angelo Dispisgna, and Jack Rubenstein also turned in a hit apiece. Freshman Carsten Sabathia also hit his first career home run, a three-run shot in three ninth inning.
UGA was led by Connor Tate with a 4-for-5 day. Starter LHP Liam Sullivan (2-0) received the win, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing one earned run on three hits.
Georgia Tech heads to Lawrenceville and Coolray Field for the 20th annual Spring Classic for the Kids to complete the series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. and will be broadcast live on SEC Network.
