Hern, Clooten Lead Jackets on Day One of ACC Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Seniors Kimery Hern and Alana Clooten posted top-five performances in the hammer throw to lead the Georgia Tech track & field teams on day one of the 2009 ACC Outdoor Championships Thursday in Coral Gables, Fla.

Hern threw a season-high distance of 194′ for a fourth-place mark, while picking up five points for the Tech women in the event. Clooten’s toss of 182’11” was the fifth-best mark on the day, and added four more points to put the Tech women in fifth-place with nine points total after three events completed.

Sophomore Kayla McKeirnan is currently in seven-place with 2,831 points in the women’s heptathlon after four of the seven events completed on day one. Her best event of the day was the 200 meter dash, where she finished fifth in a time of 25.85. The heptathlon will continue all competition at the Championships Friday with the long jump, javelin throw and 800m run starting at 10 a.m.
