THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball head coach MaChelle Joseph announced on Friday that Kaylan Pugh has signed a Grant-In-Aid to join the Yellow Jackets for the 2015-16 season. Pugh will transfer to Georgia Tech from Ohio State and sit out the 2016 spring semester and the 2016 fall semester, per NCAA transfer rules.
“We are so excited to welcome Kaylan Pugh to our Georgia Tech family,” Joseph said. “We are excited about Kaylan’s ability to be an impact player in the ACC and her tremendous athletic ability. Kaylan is an outstanding student-athlete and she will be a great representative of Georgia Tech and our basketball program. It is exciting to think about the future of our program with the addition of Kaylan.”
Pugh is a 5’9” guard from Collierville, Tenn. Pugh was a member of the Ohio State women’s basketball team this fall where she saw action in six games. She averaged 5.5 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game and 1.2 steals per game.
Pugh played for Emily Owens at St. Mary’s Episcopal School before heading to Ohio State. Coming out of high school, Pugh was an ESPN Top-100 and four-star recruit and ranked the 26th prospect in the country by Prospect Nation. As a senior, Pugh averaged 29.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game and was named TSSAA Division II Miss Basketball. Pugh was a finalist for the TSSAA Division II Miss Basketball in each of her first three seasons.
Pugh was the leading scorer in the state of Tennessee as a sophomore, junior and a senior. She was voted St. Mary’s team captain and team MVP. Pugh finished her high school career with more than 2,700 points.
During the summer of 2014, Pugh led her club team, Tennessee Flight, to a semifinals appearance at the Nike Nationals. She led the tournament in rebounds at 11.1 per game and averaged 14.7 points per game. Pugh also grabbed a tournament-high 22 rebounds in one game.
Pugh also played in the East vs. West All-Star game in Tennessee and was named the MCP of the Little Rock vs. Memphis All-Star game after scoring 29 points.
