ATLANTA (AP) – Brian Gregory has Georgia Tech pushing the ball up floor and scoring easy baskets.

The Yellow Jackets’ fifth-year coach isn’t promising 100 points every night, but he likes what he’s seen so far.

“When we defend well and rebound, then we can run,” Gregory said. “It’s kind of a reward, you know? I think our guys are buying into it.”

Charles Mitchell scored 15 points, Adam Smith and Quinton Stephens each added 14 points and Georgia Tech beat Wisconsin-Green Bay 107-77 on Thursday night.

Marcus Georges-Hunt and Josh Heath each finished with 13 points for the Yellow Jackets (3-0), who never trailed and led by double digits from the early minutes of the first half.

Charles Cooper scored 9 of his 14 points in the early minutes of the second half for Green Bay (0-3). Jordan Fouse finished with 9 points.

Carrington Love, who began the game averaging 27 points, finished with 7 points after going just 3 for 12 from the field.

The Phoenix had a rough first week. They lost in overtime last Friday at Stanford and lost 103-90 on Tuesday at East Tennessee State in a game that started at 6 a.m. to accommodate television.

“I thought tonight would be a very tough one,” Green Bay coach Linc Darner said. “I was hoping we could get them to miss some shots. We had a couple of guys that we wanted to let shoot it and they made shots tonight.”

Georgia Tech took its biggest first-half lead at 31 on James White’s 3-point play. The Jackets hit 72 percent of their 32 attempts in the first half.

Nick Jacobs finished with 12 points as each of the Jackets’ starters scored in double figures.

The Jackets are averaging 22.6 assists and 10.6 turnovers through their first three games.

“If you get up and down the floor, you get easy buckets,” Mitchell said. “You can get four or five buckets running the floor with outlet passes before we set up our offense. That’s good for us to keep the pace.”
