@GT_trackNfield Returns to Nashville for Music City Challenge

Feb. 11, 2016

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Georgia Tech track & field squad will be in action Friday and Saturday as the Yellow Jackets will compete in the Music City Challenge hosted by Vanderbilt. The field will consist of 21 schools, including Georgia, Memphis, Mississippi State and Texas Tech.

Additionally, senior distance runner Jeremy Greenwald will be running the mile at the Boston University Valentine Invitational a week after recording a personal-best in South Bend, Ind., at the Meyo Invitational. Earlier this season, Greenwald set the school record in the 3000m with a time of 8:03.13 at the Vanderbilt Commodore Invite, earning him ACC Men’s Track Co-Performer of the Week honors.

“We are looking forward to our trip to Nashville to take part in the Music City Invitational,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “This is a big meet for us as it is the last competition prior to heading to Boston for the ACC Championships. We are looking for and expecting some outstanding performances from our team members.”

Freshman Bria Matthews, a jumper from Morrow, Ga., will look to continue her strong debut season in both the long jump and triple jump competitions. Matthews is in the top 10 nationally in both events, sitting at third in the triple jump (13.33/49’ 9”) and ninth in the long jump (6.40/21’ 0’’), the event in which she now holds the school record. She will also compete in the 200m in Nashville.

The Jackets will expect strong efforts from their hurdlers, namely Spencer Allen and Kenya Collins. The two have recorded personal bests this season in the 60m hurdles, both of which occurred at Vanderbilt and are good for the top 30 nationally in the event.

“We’ve had a good indoor season so far and the team has progressed well,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “This weekend is important as it will be the last competition prior to the ACC Championships, so we’re looking to improve performances and sharpen up. With a great facility that we’re familiar with and solid competition, we should perform at a very high level in Nashville.”

Following the Music City Challenge, the Yellow Jackets will travel to Boston for the 2016 ACC Indoor Championships, which will be held Feb. 25-27.
