ATLANTA –

Cameron Tringale carded a 1-under-par 69 Monday, while Roberto Castro and Taylor Hall each shot 72 as Georgia Tech finished in sixth place at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational golf tournament at Olympia Fields, Ill.

Tech shot 288 as a team Monday, a mark bettered only by Duke, which shot 286 for a tournament total of 864 (24-over-par) and won the event by six shots over Stanford. The Cardinal finished at 30-over after posting a 295 Monday. Purdue (31-over) was third, followed by Northwestern (35-over) and defending national champion Oklahoma State (36-over).

The Jackets were another shot back at 37-over-par over 54 holes at the Olympia Fields Country Club, a two-time U.S. Open venue which plays to 7,200 yards and a par of 70.

Tringale’s 69, which included four birdies and three bogeys, was one of only six sub-70 rounds shot in the tournament. The sophomore from Laguna Niguel, Calif., finished in a six-way tie for 13th place at 219, eight shots off the pace of Niklas Lemke of Arizona State, who posted a 54-hole total of 211, 1-over-par.

Castro, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., and Hall, a sophomore from LaGrange, Ga., and Kevin Larsen, a senior from Santa Barbara, Calif., tied for 20th place in the final standings at 221. Larsen posted a 75 Monday, while freshman Daniel Bowden was a non-counter at 77.
