ATLANTA – Senior Nicholas Thompson and junior Mike Barbosa each shot four-under-par 67 Monday morning, leading Georgia Tech to an 11-under-par score of 273 and a third-place standing after 18 holes in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
The tournament is being played at the 6,958-yard, par-71 Old Overton Golf Club in Birmingham. The second round is being contested this afternoon, with the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.
Sophomore Roberto Castro shot 68 for the second-ranked Yellow Jackets, with senior Chan Song carding an even-par 70 and junior Thomas Jordan coming in at 76.
Georgia shot 268 (16 under par) to take the first-round lead, with host Alabama four shots back at 272. Behind Tech are Augusta State (275), top-ranked Oklahoma State (276), Auburn (278), Southern California (280), Wake Forest (280), Vanderbilt (283), TCU (286), Alabama-Birmingham (288) and Clemson (295).
