The 14th-ranked Yellow Jackets posted a 12-over-par score of 300 on the long, 7,510-yard, par 72 Southern Highlands course. Paul Haley and James White each shot 75, while Kyle Scott and John-Tyler Griffin posted 76’s for Tech.

“We really played pretty well tee to green, but we didn’t have a great day putting,” said head coach Bruce Heppler. “Everybody was in the round most of the day, and we had five pretty decent rounds. But there were a lot of positives. The golf course is very severe and difficult; it tests every part of your game. I think we’ve got a chance to play well the nest two days.”

The 15-team field includes 13 of the nation’s top 30 teams, making it the toughest competition the Yellow Jackets will face in the regular season.

Fifth-ranked Florida shot s 4-over 292, led by Tyson Alexander’s 68, to take a two-shot lead over 11th-ranked UCLA (294). No. 16 Texas A&M (295) is third, followed by No. 18 UNLV and No. 17 Southern California (296), No. 4 Texas (297) and No. 15 Georgia (298). Top-ranked Oklahoma State (302) is tied for ninth with Tennesssee and TCU, two shots behind Tech.

Alexander and TCU’s Johan de Beer are tied for the individual lead with 68s Friday. Hadley is tied for 16th place, six shots back. Haley and White are tied for 25th place.
