ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team has been ranked 19th in the Preseason Associated Press poll, announced Friday by the organization.
“We are excited that the AP voters have recognized our hard work to put Georgia Tech women’s basketball on the national radar,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “It means a lot to our program to be considered as a preseason top 25 team. I know our staff and players will work extremely hard to make sure we finish better than we started.”
The Yellow Jackets ranking is the highest in school history, previously earning a program-best ranking of No. 22 in last season’s January 5 poll. This also marks the first time the Jackets are in the preseason top 25 poll.
In all, Tech has been ranked in a total of 12 top 25 polls, including seven over the last three years under coach Joseph.
The Yellow Jackets will open the 2009-10 season against Winthrop in the first round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament on Friday, Nov. 13. Tipoff at Alexander Memorial Coliseum at the Henry F. McCamish, Jr. Basketball Complex is slated for 7:30 p.m.
