THE FLATS – With the summer beginning to wind down, so are the summer league seasons for the Yellow Jackets, as only a few #SummerJackets are still playing as we head into the month of August.
With only four days left in the regular season before the playoffs are set to begin on Aug. 4, the Jackets in the Cape Cod League are looking to finish their summer seasons out on a high note.
Utility player Tristin English, who represented the East Team in the Cape Cod All-Star Game, is hitting .302 with 29 hits over 31 games for the Chatham Anglers. He has recorded five home runs, five doubles, 19 RBIs, 15 runs and swiped six stolen bases. On the mound, English is 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA over 5.2 innings pitched in three appearances out of the bullpen.
Fellow Jacket and Angler Kyle McCann is hitting .230 with two home runs and six doubles over 31 games played while making the full time move to catching behind the plate.
Both Brant Hurter and Luke Waddell have their Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox team sitting in first-place overall in the Cape Cod League, as Hurter is 2-1 with a 3.30 ERA over seven starts, while Waddell is hitting .231 with 10 RBIs and 11 runs scored.
For the Bourne Braves, Jackets Chase Murray and Oscar Serratos both had strong summers at the plate. Murray hit .317 with 32 total hits over 28 games played. The lefty totaled two home runs, a triple, five doubles, three sacrifice flies, 14 RBIs, 16 runs and two stolen bases while playing in the outfield for the Braves. Serratos, who saw time in both the outfield and infield for the Braves this summer, hit .250 with three doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored in 23 games of play.
In the Coastal Plain League, right-handed pitcher Jonathan Hughes is 2-2 with a save and a 2.47 ERA over eight games this summer for the Florence RedWolves, while in the Sunbelt League Brenton Sanders (.357), Nick Wilhite (.306) and Kel Johnson (.303) are all hitting over .300 on the summer.
Infielder Paxton Rigby closed out the summer with the Seminole County Scorpions in the Florida Collegiate Summer League hitting .216 with 22 hits, two doubles, 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored, while rising sophomore Baron Radcliff hit .273 with 38 hits and 26 RBIs over 36 games for the Kalamazoo Growlers in the Northwoods League.
Transitioning from the Cape Code League to the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) has been a smooth one for Austin Wilhite, as the middle infielder is hitting a stellar .355 with 27 hits, 13 RBIs and 17 runs scored over 20 games with the Upper Valley Nighthawks.
