The opening-round tilt between Miami and Georgia Tech marks the third consecutive time the teams have met in the first round of the ACC Tournament. In last season’s opening round, the No. 11 seed Jackets defeated No. 6 seed Miami, 79-62, to face No. 3 seed Maryland on day two of the Tournament. The Terrapins eliminated the Jackets with a 71-66 win and went on to capture the National Championship.
Georgia Tech (19-10, 9-5) has faced Miami twice this season, winning both contests by 15 and 21 points. The Jackets are riding a five-game win streak and have won eight of their last 10 games.
The winner of the first-round game between Miami and Tech will advance to face Maryland, who has a first-round bye, on Friday at 8 p.m. Georgia Tech faced the Terrapins on Feb. 1 and came away with a 77-72 win over the fourth-ranked defending National Champions.
