Georgia Tech Head Coach MaChelle Joseph
On playing NC State and supporting the Pink Zone effort:
“I really thought today was a really important for many reasons. It was much bigger than winning a basketball game. I really think our players stepped up for the occasion. We always talk about our program being bigger than basketball and today was bigger than what was between the lines. Our players played with heart, passion and determination that was very similar to what Coach Yow represented in her every day of life. Before the game, we discussed “if you don’t think every day is a good day, then try not having one.”
On the freshmen and sophomore contributions:
“We started all freshmen and sophomores and I thought their determination the first five minutes of the game really set the tone. I thought we had some huge contributions from a few freshmen. Sasha Goodlett just continues to get better and better. Metra Walthour, who hasn’t played many minutes all year, really did a great job of running our team. We have been in search of a point guard for two year’s now and she seemed to really step up and lead the way for us. We also moved Iasia Hemingway back inside from the perimeter and her and Sasha were a great compliment for each other on the inside.”
On Sasha Goodlett’s improvement:
“One of the things we told Sasha when she first got her was that she is going to be the best post player we have ever had here. Sonja Mallory was great post player but she was not able to accomplish the things Sasha has already accomplished early on. I know I have said a number of times that our freshmen would really be coming on strong by the middle of February and I think Sasha is becoming an impact player. All along we knew where she could be but it was about when she could figure that out and I think she is beginning too.”
