THE FLATS — And then there was one. With Charlie Blackmon‘s Colorado Rockies falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks in an offensive slugfest 11-8 in the National League Wild Card game on Oct. 4, Matt Wieters is the lone Georgia Tech #ProJacket still playing this season as he looks to help his Washington Nationals move past the Chicago Cubs and on to the National League Championship Series (NLCS) versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.
With game three of the National League Division Series (NLDS) rained out on Tuesday, Oct. 10, the Nationals will look to strive off elimination today, Oct. 11, versus the Chicago Cubs. Down 2-1, the Wieters and the Nationals will have to win each of the next two games to stay alive in the MLB Playoffs.
Wieters, who had success in the regular season against the Cubs’ pitching, is looking to break out at the plate on Wednesday, as he is 0-for-8 and has been hit by a pitch twice thus far in the 2017 MLB Playoffs.
Blackmon, who went 0-for-4 with an RBI and a sacrifice bunt in NL Wild Card game, finished the season hitting .331 with 37 home runs, 14 triples, 35 doubles, 104 RBIs and 137 runs scored. He also totaled 213 hits, 387 total bases and 14 stolen bases in what was a career year for the seven-year MLB star.
