Georgia Tech Furthers Homestand with Syracuse Series

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball (20-9, 2-7 ACC) will dive deeper into its ACC slate hosting Syracuse (17-9, 1-5 ACC) over the weekend, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. at Mewborn Field.

Games one and three on Friday and Sunday will be broadcast live on ACC Network. Game two on Saturday will appear on ACC Network Extra.

Parking will be available in the McCamish lot with the Family Housing deck opened for overflow.

Promotions

Game two on Saturday will be Alumni Day, recognizing all alumni. A spotlight will be placed on members of the 2002 Yellow Jackets that claimed the program’s first ACC tournament title and advance to the school’s first NCAA Regional as well as the 2012 Jackets who also won the ACC Tournament and advanced to Tech’s most recent NCAA Regional, celebrating their 10th and 20th anniversaries, respectively.

Storylines

  • Georgia Tech has outscored its opponents 168-93 to date.
  • Tech got off to a 15-2 start on the year, the best for the program in 12 years. The 2010 Yellow Jackets started off 20-2 on the way to regular season and ACC tournament titles, making an NCAA regional appearance.
  • The White and Gold won their first 11 straight home games, tying the 1991 Yellow Jackets for the best home start in program history.
  • After sweeping a doubleheader against Dartmouth on Tuesday, Georgia Tech has won four straight games going into its next conference series.
  • The Yellow Jackets have won seven games by mercy rule this season, including six in just five innings.
  • Junior hurler Chandler Dennis tossed her fourth complete game and second shutout on the year in game one against the Big Green, picking up her fourth win. The right-hander’s nine sit downs marked her second highest strikeout output this season.
  • Freshman slinger Sophia Voyles pitched her first career complete game in game two, picking up her third win this season to remain undefeated in the circle.
  • Tech owns five wins tallying double digit runs on the year.
  • Georgia Tech picked up its first ranked win of the season over then No. 16 Georgia. Previously, the most recent ranked win for the Jackets came a season ago, downing No. 15 Virginia Tech on the road.
  • Tech owns 65 ranked wins all time, including six top-10 triumphs, two top-five victories and one top-three win in the history of the program.
  • Junior designated player Caroline Davis belted Tech’s second grand slam of the year against the Bulldogs following graduate slugger Tricia Awald’s same feat against Villanova (Feb. 12). The grand slam marked Davis’ first of her career, along with her fifth home run of the season and sixth of her career. Davis currently leads the team with six dingers this season.
  • Awald has gotten a hit in 21 games and reached base in Tech’s first 19 games this season. She’s reached in 26 of the Jackets’ 29 games on the year.
  • Junior Blake Neleman tossed a career-high 13 strikeouts in the season opener against Saint Joseph’s, fanning 12 of the 13 batters on the way to a complete game win. Neleman nearly matched that total against Mississippi State with 12 punchouts in another complete game win over Mississippi State. With five strikeouts in game two against Louisville, Neleman surpassed 300 career punchouts as well as her previous career high of 111 sit downs in a season. She owns 116 total this season and 304 throughout her career.
  • Neleman now owns eight complete game wins, two shutouts and an 11-5 record in 20 appearances on the year.
  • The Jackets are currently among the nation’s most efficient at the plate and near the top of the league in multiple categories – 18th in the land and second in the league in on-base percentage (0.412), third in the NCAA and leading the ACC in walks (134) and 25th in the country and fourth in the conference in doubles on the season (42).
  • Tech stacks up among the nation’s best defensively as well, placing 16th in the country and third in the conference in fielding percentage (.977).
  • Awald is among the nation’s best at the dish, currently 11th in the country and leading the conference in on-base percentage (.586) while ranking fifth in the land and leading the league in walks per game (0.93).
  • Junior catcher Emma Kauf has excelled in hits for extra bases, sitting in 14th in the NCAA and second in the ACC in doubles (10). Kauf leads the squad in hits, placing third in the league with 35.
  • To date, Neleman is 15th in the land and fourth in the league with 11 wins in the circle this season. She’s also 20th in the country and second in the conference in strikeouts (116) while ranking 20th in the NCAA and leading the ACC in innings pitched (93 2/3).

Series Notes

  • Georgia Tech leads Syracuse 8-5 in the all-time series.
  • The Yellow Jackets have claimed the last four matchups for the longest streak of the series, including a sweep at home in 2019 and most recently a 6-0 victory in the ACC Tournament a season ago in which Neleman tossed her first career no hitter and the first of its kind for the program since 2015.
  • Tech owns a 5-4 advantage in home contests throughout the series, also winning both neutral games while being knotted 1-1 on the road.
  • The White and Gold also took the first meeting of the two sides with a 6-4 neutral site victory in 2002.

2022 SOFTBALL TICKETS

2022 tickets for all home contests are on sale and can be purchased HERE. Tickets purchased during the I-75 Tournament will be valid for both games of each doubleheader of the day. A Ballpark Pass is also available HERE for all-day access to both softball and baseball for a day during the weekend.

Standing room only tickets will be sold for $2 each if all other sections are sold out. Georgia Tech students and faculty/staff can receive free admission to regular season home games while seats remain available by showing a valid BuzzCard at the entrance.
