Georgia Tech Football Doles Out Team Awards

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football head coach Paul Johnson handed out the team’s 2016 awards during its annual banquet on Friday night at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.

Award winners included:

Scout Team Awards: Fr. LB Tyler Cooksey (defense), Fr. OL Bailey Ivemeyer (offense)
Special Teams Award: Sr. PK Harrison Butker
Effort Awards: Sr. AB Isiah Willis (offense), Jr. DL KeShun Freeman (defense)
Captains Awards: Sr. PK Harrison Butker, Sr. DL Patrick Gamble, Sr. QB Justin Thomas

Additionally, Shelton Stevens of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta was on hand to present Johnson and each Georgia Tech senior with miniature replicas of the Governor’s Cup to commemorate the Yellow Jackets’ 28-27 win over archrival Georgia on Nov. 26. The Governor’s Cup, the traveling trophy that goes to the winner of the annual Georgia Tech-Georgia rivalry game, was also on display during Friday night’s festivities.

Georgia Tech (8-4) wraps up the 2016 season on Saturday, Dec. 31 when it faces Kentucky (7-5) in the TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Jacksonville’s EverBank Field.
