Florida State Head Coach Mike Martin

Opening Statement:

“That was a very good baseball team we just faced. They did an outstanding job of hitting and getting the job done. On our side I was very please with the way (Matt) DiBlasi threw the ball; he gave us a chance to win the game. That other big inning was certainly our down fall. You have to give Georgia Tech a lot of credit, they are a good looking baseball team, but so is ours.”

On the team’s pitching situation the rest of the way

“We’ll start Brian Schultz tomorrow afternoon against the winner of Clemson and UNC.”

On the road the Seminoles have taken in this tournament and if playing an earlier game at any effects as opposed to their two previous late games

“I think the main thing is that there are no excuses with Florida State baseball. I was very proud with the way we continued to scrap and claw and get our self an opportunity to the tie the game. We had a few lead off doubles and in the situation you’re not looking to advance the runners, you’re just trying to get them home. Its just one of those things you have to credit (Jordan) Crews with, he did a great job of coming in relief.”

On format of the championship

“I think it’s a very fair format. I think it’s the way it should be; I’m very pleased with it. Georgia Tech deserves to be in the driver seat, they won the first three ball games.”

On the play of Georgia Tech in the past couple months during their 20-game win streak

“With the things that Georgia Tech has done in the last five weeks, I think that they are one of the top-five teams in the nation. To do what they have done, wining on the road, winning at home against the quality of competition they have faced is one of the remarkable things that they have done.”

Aaron Cheesman, Catcher

On Eddie Cannon’s performance

“I don’t think he pitched that badly. They got good pitches to hit. I thought he did a good job of hitting his spots. They just swung the bat well and when you put the ball in play, good things will happen. You know the old saying, “hitting is contagious,” and it was definitely contagious in that inning. Eddie just needs to shake that off, we are going to definitely need him in the regional and beyond. He just needs to keep his head up and look forward to his next start.”

Matt DiBlasi, Relief Pitcher

On his pitching performance against Georgia Tech

“I felt really well out there. I was just pleased to get a double play ball to (Bryan) Zech in the third and then another ground ball to get out of the jam in that inning. From then on I just buried my head and bull dogged my way through it. I was just trying to get ahead of hitters, throw strikes, keep the ball down and hit my spots. I never really realized how long I was out there until I looked up at the scoreboard and noticed it was already the seventh inning.”

Georgia Tech Head Coach Danny Hall

Opening Statement:

“We are very proud of our team. Andrew Kown really battled and didn’t quite have his best stuff tonight, but he battled through it. Jordan Crews came in and pitched great again tonight. He pitched great last night too. To me, he is probably the MVP of the game just because he put a lot of zeros on the board. Clifton again came up with another big hit to blow the game open in the eighth. I thought we made some great defensive plays again tonight, I thought Tyler Greene’s play on a chopper in the whole in the eighth inning when they had a runner on third and two outs was huge. That really gave us some momentum heading into the top of ninth.”

On format of the tournament

“I love it a lot right now but we still have to win one more game. The coaches decided back in August that we were going to change the format. We wanted to reward the team that was undefeated. A team could still play five games, but you can play four too. That’s why we decided on this, so we could send the winner out of here with a great shot of being able to compete next weekend in the regional.”

On intention of bringing in Crews in the fifth inning

“We wanted to get him in to get a double play ball and he did that by getting a ground ball to end the inning. With the lead, we were riding him and he’s got a strong back because we rode him all the way to the end. I can’t say enough about what he has done for us today and yesterday. Our bullpen has been outstanding. They have given up only one run in ten innings of work and that is probably the difference in us sitting here right now at 3-0. That is the difference, no doubt in my mind on why we are undefeated.”

Clifton Remole, Right field

On the stock of having a big inning

“Florida State is a great team; you can never count them out. We knew we had to battle the whole game and score more runs.”

On 20-game winning streak

“We are really focused and relaxed. We are just going out there, playing ball and having a great time. It’s awesome! Our pitching has been outstanding and everything about our hitting is awesome too. We are putting everything together and it is making out to be a great ball club.”

On his second-inning at bats and the way the rest of the club responded that inning

“We just tried to go with the pitches and let them fall where they may. I made the first out in that inning and I didn’t want to be the last out.”

Jordan Crews, Pitcher

On the chances of winning the tournament:

“I think we are in a great position. Our bullpen has been throwing great and we haven’t had to use a whole lot of guys. Our starters are giving us some quality innings. With the way we are hitting the ball and playing defense, I think we are in a great position.”

On his role as a pitcher this season:

“The past two seasons I have been normally used as a set up guy, to come in and get a double play to end an inning. I rely a lot on getting ground balls and letting my defense make the plays. And with the way our defense has been playing, it has been working out great lately. Coming into tonight, I didn’t know how long I would be counted on to pitch, so I did all I could do to get zeros on the board. These are the most innings I have pitched in my career. My previous best was when I pitched three against Miami last year.”
