THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team (0-6) fell by a score of 5-4 to the St. John’s Red Storm (3-3) on Tuesday evening in the teams’ first ever meeting. The game was halted and called due to rain in the bottom of the seventh and the second game of the doubleheader was cancelled.

How It Happened
St. John’s got on the board first in the top of the first on an RBI single.  Georgia Tech tied it up in the bottom half of the inning as Samantha Pierannunzi poked one to shallow center to reach base, Kelsey Chisholm laid down the sacrifice bunt and Pierannunzi moved to third on a wild pitch. Malea Bell’s sacrifice fly to left scored Pierannunzi.

The Jackets added three runs to their lead in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles from Pierannunzi and Chisholm to score Morgan Taylor and Draven Sonnon. Pierannunzi scored on a wild pitch to give the Jackets a 4-1 lead.

St. John’s capitalized on a Tech miscue in the top of the fourth to pull within one run, 4-3. The Red Storm added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-4 lead, before the game was called.

Emily Anderson pitched the first five innings for Tech, allowing four runs with seven strikeouts. Jenna Goodrich (0-3) took over and is the pitcher of record after one inning of work and allowing one run on two hits.

St. John’s Tori Free (1-2) earned the win after throwing 4.2 innings, holding the Jackets to just two hits.
