DURHAM, N.C. – Georgia Tech baseball’s season came to an end on Wednesday when it fell 15-1 to No. 12 Virginia in a seven-inning run rule in the ACC Tournament at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Yellow Jackets (30-27) were held to just four hits and scored its run on a big blast home run from Angelo Dispigna in the ninth inning. The Cavaliers (41-11) scratched just three runs across early, but scored eight in the fifth to put the game out of reach, scoring six of their nine two-out RBIs in that inning.
RHP Aeden Finateri (2-4) received the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and having five earned runs against him. Tech’s defense struggled some in the early innings behind Finateri, making two errors in the field. Tech then used six pitchers out of the bullpen in relief, turning to LHP Joseph Mannelly, RHP Jackson Vaughan, LHP Camron Hill, LHP Josiah Siegel, RHP Jackson Finley and finally RHP Demitri Diamant.
In addition to Dispigna’s home run, Jake DeLeo, John Giesler and Finley recorded the Jackets’ other hits on the day.
Virginia was led by Ethan O’Donnell, who went 3-for-5 with three RBI. RHP Nick Parker (7-0) pitched the seven-inning complete game, striking out five.
