LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Georgia Tech softball team (16-24) fell to North Texas (20-19), 10-2 (5), and Kansas (24-13), 12-1 (5), on Sunday at Arrocha Ballpark at Rock Chalk Park. The Jackets are back in action Tuesday at Kennesaw State at 6 p.m. for Lexi’s Day.
Game 1: North Texas 10, Georgia Tech 2 (5)
North Texas jumped out to a 6-0 lead on six hits in the top of the second inning. The Mean Green made it an 8-0 game with two runs on three hits in the fourth frame.
The Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Kaylee Ellebracht roped a leadoff single, and Jessica Kowalewicz followed with a double to deep left field. With runners on the corners and no outs, Samantha Pierannunzi’s groundout to second brought in Ellebracht.
In the same inning, Courtney Ziese’s third hit of the game, which went to right center, scored Kowalewicz to make it 8-2. A two-spot in the top of the fifth for North Texas afforded the Mean Green the final 10-2 lead.
For the Jackets, Colleen Darragh and Ziese each went 3-for-3. Kowalewicz added two hits, one of which was a double, and a run, while Ellebracht tallied a hit and a run.
Jenna Goodrich (6-10) suffered the loss, while Jessica Elder (13-7) earned the win for the Mean Green.
Game 2: Kansas 12, Georgia Tech 1 (5)
Pierannunzi led off with a double to right and moved to third on Kelsey Chisholm’s team-leading 10th sacrifice bunt. Ziese’s sacrifice fly to center brought home Pierannunzi to put Tech on the board 1-0 in the first inning.
The Jayhawks got that run back in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Chaley Brickey. Kansas added three runs on three hits in the second stanza to take a 4-1 lead.
Kansas pushed a run across in the bottom of the third and plated seven more in the fourth to take a 12-1 lead.
Pierannunzi and Lionberger each went 2-for-2 for Tech. Pierannunzi added a run, Ziese tallied an RBI, Ellebracht singled and Katie Krzus hit a double.
Goodrich (6-11) suffered the loss and Morgan Taylor pitched one inning in relief. Andie Formby (14-5) earned the win for Kansas, while Monique Wesley pitched an inning of relief.
