THE FLATS – Four Yellow Jackets will represent the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team at the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships as the Subcommittee announced Wednesday the 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams selected to compete. In singles, senior Rasheeda McAdoo and junior Johnnise Renaud both earned bids, while the Jackets boast two doubles tandems earning at-large selections in McAdoo/Renaud and Paige Hourigan and Kenya Jones.
The singles and doubles competition will take place May 24-29 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., and will be hosted by the University of Georgia.
“I’m very proud of Rasheeda, Johnnise, Paige and Kenya for qualifying for NCAA Championships,” noted head coach Rodney Harmon. “It is such an honor to qualify for these prestigious events.”
McAdoo led the Jackets from the top singles spot the majority of the dual season, posting a 15-8 dual singles mark, including a 10-6 record from the No. 1 spot. The senior, an All-ACC first team selection, is currently ranked No. 50 in the latest national rankings. Renaud recorded a 22-5 mark in dual singles play during the season and went 12-1 in ACC league play. Also tabbed All-ACC first team, Renaud went 10-2 in dual play from the No. 2 spot for the Yellow Jackets and is currently ranked No. 58.
Combined, the pair went 17-4 in dual play and was undefeated from the No. 2 spot with a 7-0 mark. The duo has won the last seven matches and is the 23rd-ranked doubles tandem in the country.
Also earning an at-large doubles bid, Hourigan/Jones dropped just two matches in the dual season, amassing a 22-2 mark. The pair went 15-2 from the second seed and closed the regular season from the No. 1 spot where they went 7-0. Ranked No. 39 nationally, the tandem has won their last 13-straight matches.
This marks the third at-large selection for Hourigan, second for Renaud and first for both McAdoo and Jones.
Georgia Tech will open the team portion of the NCAA Championships May 13 hosting Alabama State at 2 p.m. at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. The Jackets host first- and second-rounds with the winner advancing to the University of Georgia for the final four rounds of competition.
