THE FLATS – Georgia Tech senior pitcher Buck Farmer and senior outfielder Brandon Thomas earned preseason All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, as the committee announced its 2013 team on Thursday.
Farmer was a second-team selection, while Thomas was picked to the third team. Tech and NC State were the only Atlantic Coast Conference teams with multiple selections on the NCWBA’s preseason All-America squad.

Tech’s workhorse last season, Farmer logged 106.2 innings (third in the ACC) and posted a 3.54 ERA and 8-4 record. He allowed 100 hits, while striking out 115 against 37 walks. The Conyers, Ga., native enters his senior season ranked 13th on Tech’s all-time strikeouts list (265), 15th in career wins (24), 20th in career winning percentage (.750, 24-8) and 16th in career ERA (3.27).
Thomas returns after leading the ACC Champion Yellow Jackets offensively last season, hitting a career-best .360, with 15 doubles, five triples, five home runs, 44 RBI and 12 stolen bases. The five-tool player was a second-team Academic All-America In 2012 and also named Academic All-ACC.
Farmer and Thomas were each first-team All-ACC picks in 2012, and each elected to return to Tech for their senior seasons after being drafted. Thomas was a fourth-round pick by Pittsburgh and Farmer went in the 15th round to Milwaukee.
Tech opens is 2013 season on Feb. 15 versus Akron at Russ Chandler Stadium.
