THE FLATS – Eight student-athletes that went on to star at Georgia Tech are among the 40 individuals that have been selected for the 2023 class of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame.
Tech’s eight honorees include: QB Pepper Rodgers (Brown H.S. – Class of 1949), QB Billy Lothridge (Gainesville H.S. – Class of 1959), LB Lucius Sanford (West Fulton H.S. – Class of 1973), RB Eddie Lee Ivery (Thomson H.S. – Class of 1974), LB Mackel Harris (Americus H.S. – Class of 1975), LB/DB Pat Swilling (Stephens County H.S. – Class of 1981), OL John Davis (Gilmer H.S. – Class of 1982) and LB/DB Ken Swilling (Stephens County H.S. – Class of 1987 – pictured above).
The impressive collection of Yellow Jackets includes a College Football Hall of Fame inductee (Pat Swilling), two members of Georgia Tech national championship teams (Rodgers – 1952 and Ken Swilling – 1990) and six all-Americans (Lothridge – 1962 and ’63, Sanford – 1977, Davis – 1985 and ’86, Pat Swilling – 1985 and Ken Swilling – 1989 and ’90). All eight were drafted and/or played in the National Football League.
The 2023 class is the second selected for induction to the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame. The inaugural class in 2022 included six Yellow Jackets – Clint Castleberry, Bill Curry, Stan Gann, Calvin Johnson, George Maloof and Larry Morris.
The 2023 class of the Georgia High School Football Hall of Fame will be inducted on Oct. 21 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
