Duke Stops Georgia Tech Baseball, 3-0

DURHAM, NC – Tony Bajoczky and Michael Seander combined on a six-hit shutout as Duke (18-8, 1-7 ACC) earned a 3-0 victory over Georgia Tech (13-11, 4-4 ACC) Saturday afternoon at Jack Coombs Field.

Bajoczky (4-2) tossed seven strong innings for the win, giving up just five hits while striking out five, while Seander earned his sixth save of the season by allowing just one hit and one walk over the last two innings against the Jackets.

Tech starter John Goodman (1-1) took the loss despite holding the Blue Devils to just one unearned run on four hits in seven innings of work.

Michael Fisher and Wally Crancer combined for four of the Yellow Jackets’ six hits in the game, as Crancer went 2-for-3 with a double and also reached on an HBP while Fisher hit .500 on the afternoon.

Jimmy Gallagher led off the bottom of the first with a single and advanced to third when Jonathan Anderson’s single got away from a Tech second baseman Patrick Long. Gallagher then scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexander Hassan to put the Blue Devils up 1-0.

Duke tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning after Anderson hit a one-out single off Tech reliever Tim Ladd and moved to second on Nate Freiman’s two-out single off Jared Hyatt. Brett Bartles then sent his second hit of the game to the outfield wall for a double, driving in both runners to put the Blue Devils up by three.

The Jackets and Blue Devils conclude the series Sunday afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. Senior LHP Ryan Turner (1-3) will take the mound for Georgia Tech, while Duke will counter with lefty Christopher Manno.
