GREENSBORO, N.C. – After averaging 22.5 points and 10.0 rebounds this past week, Georgia Tech women’s basketball freshman Kaela Davis has been chosen as the ACC Rookie of the Week for the week of Dec. 9.
On Saturday, Davis recorded season-bests in scoring, 29 points, and rebounding, 14 boards, on her way to her third double-double of the season. The Suwanee, Ga. native made seven 3-pointers, which ranks second in the Georgia Tech individual game record book and tied an ACC single-game high. Davis also scored 16 points against Illinois in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday, while recording two steals and one assist.
Davis’ 19.8 ppg leads the Yellow Jackets and ranks fourth in the ACC. She leads all ACC rookies in scoring. Davis ranks third in the ACC in 3-point field goals made, with an average of 3.4 made 3-pointers a game. She has gone 27-for-68 from behind the arc this season to record a 39.7 3-point shooting percentage which leads the Jackets.
Davis has led the Jackets in scoring for five games this season and two games in rebounding. In four games this season, the freshman has scored 20 points or more and has scored in double-figures in every single game.
This is the second ACC Rookie of the Week honor for Davis this season. She also garnered the accolade for the first week of the season, Nov. 11, after recording back-to-back double-doubles in the Yellow Jackets’ opening games.
Georgia Tech wraps up a three-game home stand on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. at McCamish Pavilion against Portland State.
