CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College hit four home runs en route to a 15-7 win over No. 14 Georgia Tech Friday afternoon in the first game of an ACC series at Commander Shea Field in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Sam Dove extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a 3-for-5 effort and Mott Hyde went 3-for-4 with a homer run and a double for the Yellow Jackets, who slipped to 14-8 overall and 3-4 in the ACC. The Eagles scored 15 runs on 19 hits — both season-highs allowed by Tech — and improved to 8-12, 1-6.

Due to impending weather on Sunday, the teams will play a doubleheader Saturday at Commander Shea Field, beginning at 11:30 a.m.

Things looked good early for Tech, which seized a 1-0 lead in the top of first inning thanks to Brandon Thomas’ one-out single to right, a single by Jake Davies to left and the team-leading 24th RBI from Zane Evans on a single to right.

But BC came right back in the bottom half and Tom Bourdon took the first pitch from junior Buck Farmer and deposited it over the fence in right for a 1-1 tie.

Hyde launched a solo homer to left-center to give Tech a 2-1 lead again in the second, but the Eagles countered with two runs in each of the next two innings to build a 5-3 lead.

The hosts blew the game open with a seven-run, five-hit fifth inning, in which they sent 13 batters to the plate.

Tech lost for the first time this season when scoring in the first inning (8-1) and the second time when scoring first (11-2).

Eric Stevens settled in after a rocky first, and thanks to the offensive output, was able to pick up the win for BC. He allowed 10 hits and seven runs in 5.2 innings with seven strikeouts to improve to 2-2.

Making his 25th career start for Tech, Farmer was on the wrong end of the decision, lasting 4.1 innings and falling to 4-2 – his first loss since Opening Day.

Anthony Melchionda, Spencer Payne and John Hennessey also homered for the Eagles.
