THE FLATS – No. 7 Georgia Tech baseball used a nine-run seventh inning to blast past Presbyterian College on Wednesday night, earning the 17-7 victory at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (4-1) used 17 hits as a team on the day, led by six multi-hit performances and three home runs.
Kevin Parada led the way with a 3-for-4 night, finishing with a double, home run and four RBI, while Chandler Simpson had a double on his 3-for-4 night. Tres Gonzalez kicked off the seventh-inning onslaught with a bases clearing, three-RBI double to finish 2-for-4, same as Andrew Jenkins who also drove in two runs.
Colin Hall and Jake DeLeo also finished with two hits on the day with Hall driving in a run and DeLeo having two doubles. Drew Compton blasted his third home run of the season for two runs, while Tim Borden II crushed a homer in his first at-bat on The Flats.
Georgia Tech used seven pitchers on the day. LHP Josiah Siegel had the tough-luck start, surrendering three earned runs in 2.1 innings. RHP Xander Stephens (1-0) then came in and dealt 1.2 no-hit innings to receive his first career decision. LHP Cody Carwile and LHP Joseph Mannelly controlled the middle innings with just three total runs allowed, before RHP Logan McGurie and RHP Cort Roedig slammed the door with an inning apiece and a combined five strikeouts.
The Blue Hose (2-2) were led at the plate by Chris Veach, who went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while RHP Colbey Klepper (0-1) received the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in 2.1 innings.
Seventh-ranked Georgia Tech concludes its busy start to the season of eight games in 10 days when it remains home to host Gardner-Webb on Feb. 25-27. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra and WREK 91.1 FM.
