>> Georgia Tech, which is 16-5 in non-conference games this season, steps out of ACC action to host Charlotte in a three-game series at Russ Chandler Stadium that begins Saturday at 6 p.m.
>> All three games can be heard live on WREK 91.1 FM in Atlanta with Nolan Alexander and Alex McIntosh on the call, and live video streaming is available at RamblinWreck.com.
>> Sophomore SS Mott Hyde hit a team-leading .429 last week (6-for-14) with three home runs, seven RBI, seven runs and slugged 1.143. Hyde drove in at least one run in all four games and played error-free in 19 chances. He swiped three bases and scored seven of Tech’s 25 runs last week. Now hitting .271, Hyde has raised his average 42 points over the last 12 games.
>> Sophomore reliever Alex Cruz entered the week leading the country in fewest hits allowed per nine innings (4.47), and the righty leads the ACC in overall ERA (1.17, third nationally), conference ERA (0.73) and WHIP (0.82, fourth nationally). Cruz (5-1) has yielded just two runs in his last 33.2 innings and has been credited with five of Tech’s last nine wins.
>> Junior Buck Farmer gets the nod Saturday night, and the righty is pitching to a 1.88 ERA over his last five starts — against Duke, No. 2 FSU, Wake Forest, No. 6 UNC and Clemson. Farmer was the ACC Pitcher of the Week on April 2, after logging the league’s only complete-game shutout this season, a 1-0 win over Duke. He is third in the ACC with 82 strikeouts.
