Baseball Cracks Top 10 at No. 7

THE FLATS – After having a rock solid Opening Weekend and sweeping Wright State, Georgia Tech baseball moved up four spots and into the top 10 at No. 7, Collegiate Baseball announced Monday.

The Yellow Jackets showed its offensive prowess, hitting .365 as a team with two players hitting above .600, four players above .500 and six players above .300.

Andrew Jenkins led the way with a .667 average, getting six hits and two doubles for five RBI, including the walk-off hit on Opening Day. Drew Compton also brought the power, hitting .600 with a double and two home runs – one from each side of the plate. Chandler Simpson shined in his first action on The Flats, hitting .500 with a three-RBI triple to give Tech the game on Sunday. He also stole two bases on the weekend.

Jake DeLeo (.400), Kevin Parada (.333) and Stephen Reid (.308) also hit above .300 with DeLeo having two doubles and a homer and Reid smashing a homer of his own.

On the mound, RHP Chance Huff had a strong Friday night start, fanning nine on the way to the pitching staff falling just two strikeouts shy of the program record at 17. LHP Joseph Mannelly put in 3.0 one-hit innings with six punchouts and the victory on Sunday, while LHP Josiah Siegel gave 3.0 no-hit innings on Saturday for the decision. RHP Dawson Brown also turned in two appearance, including a terrific, two-strikeout one-inning save on Sunday – the first of his career.

Seventh-ranked Georgia Tech continues its busy start to the season of eight games in the first 10 days by traveling to Georgia Southern on Tuesday, Feb. 22 before hosting Presbyterian on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and WREK 91.1 FM.
