Golden Spikes Award Watch List
DURHAM, N.C. – USA Baseball released its 40-player midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list on Wednesday, an award for the top amateur baseball player in the country, which included Georgia Tech sophomore catcher Joey Bart. Presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation, the 40th Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 29 in Los Angeles.

This season, Bart is hitting .323 (42-for-130) with a team-high 11 home runs, 10 doubles, 32 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has recorded a total of 42 hits and 10 walks and has a team-best .654 slugging percentage on the season all while catching behind the plate for the Jackets in all 31 games thus far this season.
Named the National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the ACC Player of the Week on March 6 and the Perfect Game/Rawlings Player of the Week on March 7, the Buford, Ga. native was also named to the 2017 Johnny Bench Award Watch List on March 9.
Most recently, Bart was named to the Midseason Perfect Game/Rawlings College Baseball All-American First Team and recognized as a D1Baseball Midseason All-American.
The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of players, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season. Fans will have opportunities to nominate their favorite players and be a part of voting for the award’s finalists and winner at GoldenSpikesAward.com.
Past winners of this prestigious award include current Major League Baseball standouts Kris Bryant (’13), Bryce Harper (’10), Stephen Strasburg (’09), Buster Posey (’08) and David Price (’07) and former Major League stars Robin Ventura (’88), Will Clark (’85) and Terry Francona (’80).
The 40th Golden Spikes Award will be presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation on June 29 in Los Angeles.
