Bart, English Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-Americans

June 8, 2016

TUCSON, Ariz. – Georgia Tech’s Joey Bart and Tristin English were named to the 2016 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, selected Wednesday by Collegiate Baseball.

Bart finished his rookie season with a .299 average with one home run, 10 doubles and 31 RBI in 43 games, splitting time between catcher and designated hitter.

One of three first-team All-ACC performers for the Yellow Jackets, English finished fifth on Tech’s squad with a .315 clip, a team-best 21 doubles, five home runs and 44 RBI in 60 games. English’s 21 doubles are a single-season school record for a freshman.

Both Bart and English were named to the ACC All-Freshman Team in May and picked up Gainesville Regional All-Tournament Team honors last week.

Thirty-four Yellow Jackets have been named Freshman All-Americans, highlighted by Jason Varitek (1991), Nomar Garciaparra (1992), Mark Teixeira (1999), Matt Wieters (2007), Matt Gonzalez (2013) and Kel Johnson (2015). Twenty-two players have earned Freshman All-America honors under 23-year head coach Danny Hall.

Georgia Tech (38-25) advanced to its 31st NCAA Regional in school history and its 20th under Coach Hall when the Yellow Jackets earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Gainesville Regional. The Jackets finished as the regional runner-up after posting a 2-2 mark in Gainesville.
