ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I All-Region Teams Announced
THE FLATS – Georgia Tech baseball junior second baseman Wade Bailey and sophomore catcher Joey Bart were both named to the 2017 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Atlantic all-region teams, it was announced today.
Bailey was named to the Atlantic all-region first team, while Bart earned a spot on the all-region second team.
Bailey, who earned all-ACC first-team honors this season and was named to the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I all-America second team earlier this month, led the Jackets in a number of offensive categories throughout the year. Leading off for Tech for the majority of the season, Bailey hit a team-high .347 at the plate, with a team-leading 82 hits, 21 doubles, three triples, 63 runs and 127 total bases. He also recorded six home runs and 38 RBIs on the season. He also stole six bases and posted a team-best .420 on-base percentage while starting all 55 games at second base for the Jackets.
A three-year starter, Bailey ranked in the top 12 in the ACC in five different categories, as he finished the year tied for first in the conference in doubles (21), third in runs scored (63), seventh in hits (82), 10th in total bases (127) and 12th in average (.347).
Earning a spot on the second team as a catcher, Bart adds to his accolades for this season. An all-ACC second team selection and Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist, Bart led the team with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs on the year despite missing the last 11 games of the season due to an injury. In addition to the home runs and RBIs, the Buford, Ga. native hit .296 with 55 total hits, 13 doubles and 36 runs. He also posted a team-best .575 slugging percentage and threw out 10 would-be base stealers.
The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division I All-America Committee.
