LYNCHBURG, Va. (NCBWA)
– Georgia Tech baseball freshman shortstop Austin Wilhite earned a spot on the 2017 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division I Freshmen All-American First Team, the organization announced today.

He was one of a total of 31 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country featured on the 2017 NCBWA Freshman All-American teams.

This honor comes just one week after the freshman shortstop was named to the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I Freshmen All-American Team on June 7.

Wilhite, who was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team, was at the top in a number of offensive categories for Georgia Tech this season. He was second on the team in hitting at .338 (67-for-198) on the year and second on the team in on-base percentage (.410).

Playing in all 55 games, starting 54 at shortstop, the freshman from Buford, Ga. was third on the team in hits (67), doubles (14), triples (1), and runs scored (36). He was also fourth on the team in walks (23) and eighth on the team in total bases (86).

In his first year on The Flats, Wilhite was third on the team with 20 multi-hit games, which included a career-high four hit game in the win over No. 8 Virginia on May 18. He also registered six multi-RBI games, which was highlighted by a four RBI showing in the win over Belmont on Mar. 3. He posted a season-high seven-game hitting streak and a season-best on-base streak of 11 straight games in 2017.

The Freshman All-American team is voted upon by the membership of the NCBWA. The 2017 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 13.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. For more information about the NCBWA, visit the association’s official Web site, www.ncbwa.com.
